RE: Where is the drain hose?

I purchased a 96 Alpenlite 34RL last year and never used the onboard water for anything because all the camping we did was full hookups, my question is: where is the hose or drain for this tank so I can clean and drain the tank? I looked everywhere on the bottom but no 100% sure I know what I am looking for. What the ratio of bleach & water to sanitize the tank? it is a 100 gallon tank Look for a red handle between the wheels on the door side of the trailer. That's where the fresh drain was on another 96 I recently saw. Rick

RE: nascar Golfcarts

Not sure why you have to put nascar and campers abusing golf carts together. They aren't related in any way. Personally I'd ask the ones who do it for a answer. No one on here is going to be able to answer your question with any truth and will omly be quessing unless thay admit to doing it themselves.

RE: Land Use Law question.....I ain't a lawyer

They call them "strip" malls here. never heard of the term "strip" shopping center before. To the OP...check out your home/property insurance too. I know I need different coverage if we have livestock. Could be the same for you too.

RE: So you want good eats in NorCal and Colorado Springs?

I have a different opinion. The worst meal I ever had was from the blackbear diner off hilltop drive in Redding. It was suppose to be med rare prime rib but instead was shoe leather. When the waitress served me she dropped the auju sauce off into my lap and to top it all off after everything...they tried to double charge me rather than give me the meal for free which is what they should have done. This happened 3 years ago and I haven't and will not be back. We eat at Logans Roadhouse or Cattelmans or Outback now instead. I've yet to be dumped on and double charged for the privelidge yet at those places.

RE: Can fuel be made from something other than oil?

I say we should be looking at hemp for bio fuels. Twice as many crops in a year, easier to grow, more pest resistant and it doesn't take away from food supplies to do it. Plus growing and using hemp helps with other things like feed from the left over seed cake after pressing for the oils and fibers for cloth from the stalks. Here's a great read that explains the benefits of hemp and while I don't agree with everything in it, the positives outweigh the negatives 100 to 1 imo: http://jackherer.com/chapters.html

RE: 1996 Alpenlite 34RL

Mine is a 100 gallon tank as well. I believe all alpenlites have 100 galon fresh water tanks and 40 gallon black and 40 gallon grey tanks. My drain is at the back of the trailer behind the rear wheels on the drivers side. My trailer once had damage when a tire came off and it ripped out a lot of things so my drain is at the rear left corner of the fresh tank. Yours might be slightly different but it should be right in that area. The fresh tank is the big long box that goes across your trailer behind your rear wheels. You can't miss it. Access to the top of the fresh tank is under my sofa but I don't have a slide so it might be different for you. I believe the ratio of bleach to water is 1/4 cup bleach for every 20 gallons of water. That's 1 and 1/4 cup of bleach for your tank. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Rick

RE: Duropower Low Price Generators

Glad you have a genset that works for you. I'm surprised it came from Duropower but then again...it's brand new to you still. My little dp1500s ran great the first 10 hours., then started missing so bad that the miss makes the voltage fluctuate from 100 volts to 110 volts. I've replaced the spark plug and tried to clean the carb without any results. Not sure what else to do. The way it sits it's junk. I'd send it back but I've already sent one back for the same reason. I can't afford to send another back only to receive another one that does the same thing. Personally I myself would recommend that all stay away from duro power. I'm sure there are others who feel differently though.

RE: Dam Gamel RV

What the heck! Did someone decide to flood the forums with Dan Gamel posts? This is the 3'rd I've read from today all saying the same thing. Back in february there was a post of a article telling about Dan Gamel shutting down several locations. With the prices of everything from oil to groceries increasing up to 100% or more in the last year or two I find it odd that anyone would be surprised that RV dealerships/manufacturers are shutting down.

RE: A sad story. Please open link.

Truly a tragedy. That said, why do these things get reported here on the Forum with such regularity? I think it is macabre that we need to get these things here so quickly. What can be said about something like this? What do we learn? Just a thought that has been moving around in my head for some time. I've wondered about the fascination of some to post about accidents myself. When I questioned it in a previous post a few months back I was criticized. We don't post about car accidents or pick up accidents or even tractor trailer accidents. Why does everyone feel the need to do so just because a RV was involved? Nothing was or ever is learned or gained in anyway from these reports. Most of the time no one knows what happened or why yet they still feel the need to post that they saw the aftermath of it or had to stop for traffic for it. All this thread did was to show us all how a man possibly killed 2/3 of his family because he was towing too big of a trailer for his vehicle. Rick

RE: Emergency Road Service. Satisfied With Your Provider?

I recently renewed at GS. I went to coach nets web site to compare prices and see what I would get with my purchase and couldn't find out any new member prices or info. Only renewal prices. I prefer to do things online instead of talking to some nut I can't understand and the fact that I couldn't find out what I wanted online...I went back to where I could. Good Sam platinum for $130.00 a year. I paid $10.00 less a year for AAA+ a few years back and broke down on the Richmond bridge (water pump disintegrated). The bridge tow truck driver towed us into Port Richmond and dropped us, DW, 2 DD's and one of there friends and myself and the GMC Jimmy, off on the side of a road and stranded us there. After waiting for over 4 hours for a tow arranged by AAA I called GMC road side service that had come with the purchase of the SUV and was towed within 20 minutes to a dealer clear across town rather than the shady looking mechanic a mile down the road where AAA was going to take us. Until I get stuck or mistreated by GS I'll stay with them. Rick

RE: Generator question

Yes you can connect it directly with the dog bone and it doesn't matter how you connect a cord to that genset...it's not powerful enough to run any AC except maybe a super small window unit. You would require a second unit or bigger genset.

RE: My Space Question

Don't go letting the worry warts scare you away from myspace. Letting him on myspace is about as dangerous as letting him play out in the yard and requires about the same attention. As long as his page and postings are kept private and monitored by a responsible adult I don't see how any harm can come to him. I have a page so I can keep in touch with my brothers and sisters as well as my kids and see new pics of my new grand daughter. When used correctly and responsibly it's a neat tool to keep in touch with friends and family. Rick myspace page addy: www.myspace.com/racefan1965

RE: "Fuel Efficient" charging pattern?

Absolutely Wayne.. And the OP has a 3500W constant speed generator to use for battery charging. This is much larger than necessary to do the job and as a result, uses much more fuel. According to the published figures, the Champion 3500W uses over 1 gal per hour at 50% load and the Honda gets 15 hours on 1.1 gal at 1/4 load. Yes, my Honda is only running at about 1/4 load when battery charging, even at bulk charge rates with my PD9260. The Champ 3500 would be at less than 1/2 load, but I was unable to find any other consumption specs for it. Greengreen says less than 1 gal per hour, but still that does not compare to less than 1/10 gal per hour. One thing brought out on this string was the importance of adding solar to the system if you are a long term boondocker, and the need to fully charge the batteries at regular intervals to avoid sulfating.. Personally I keep my TT plugged in when it is stored, so this is not a problem. Great information here though... The published figures your stating for the champion are wrong. My champion uses less than 1/2 gallon per hour at full load. Others report the same. Read the 3000watt genset thread for clarification. Using a genset just to idle and charge batteries is a waste of gas and machine IMO. If that's all you want to do is recharge bateries go with solar and inverters. That would be a really smart decision.

RE: Champion Generators...again

Noise, noise, noise.. Personally I believe this subject has been debated ad nauseam.. However, you cannot (or should not) ignore the huge difference in fuel consumption. Generators are rarely run at full load. A Honda EU2000I uses less than 1/10 gal per hour running at 1/4 throttle, If you are using this generator for keeping your bateries charged and occasionally running the Microwave, this is about what you will expect for fuel consumption. This comes from the Mfr's specs as well as my personal experience. From the Champion reviews it uses over 1 gal per hour at 1/2 load. That is the only specs I have seen posted so far so far. Perhaps a few of you Champion lovers can relate your real life fuel consumption? At $4.50 per gal, you do the math.. BTW even a pair of EU2000I's will run slightly above idle when running a 13.5 A/C so I will speculate that even the two of them still use way less fuel than one Champion. Oh yes, they are also way quieter. :B I agree this has been debated to death and unfortunately it will be debated for years to come still. Not sure who reviewed the champion gas consumption for you but I just got back from infineon raceway today. The temps were at or above 100degrees for friday and saturday. Sunday was a little cooler. I ran the champion for about 10 hours each of those 2 hot days to use the AC which is why I bought the champion. If all I wanted to do was charge batteries or use the microwave once in a while I'd be a generous and polite camper and use solar and inverters instead of a noisy gas using genset like a honda or yamaha. I'm a firm believer in buying what's needed to do the job and wasting a $1000.00 to $2000.00 on a genset to leave idling would be a huge waste of money and not the smartest set up IMO. My champion uses less than 1/2 gallon of fuel a hour when I use it. It has a 4 to 4.5 gallon fuel tank and needs to be filled every 10 hours or so while running the AC, reefer, converter and television and DVR as well as a laptop. Oh yeah...I recharged a seperate battery for a seperate inverter at the same time for the kids to watch movies in their tent at night. That's less than 1/2 a gallon per hour and at close to full load which is where my genset runs at when ever I'm using it.

RE: What parts to bring?

I can't tell you how many times I have made a run to an auto parts store or local hardware outlet while away from home on a camping trip. If I tried to plan for and prepare for everything, I'd be towing my entire garage/shop along behind the trailer. Exactly! I keep a basic tool kit and some cloth duct tape, metal duct tape and electrical tape. If anything else is needed I'll go buy it when neccessary.

RE: One more question about stabilizing the 5th

I've found that when "properly" installed My tripod helps tremendously. That along with roto chocks eliminates almost all the movement. Without one or the other the movements in the rear living room is extremely noticeable in the fifth wheel and vice versus. I guess from the above posts I'm in the minority.:) Rick

RE: Generator Use

Polish nurse gave the perfect answer. To the point and not off topic trying to be the noise police. This site would be so much better if others did the same! To the OP...Just use the genset as your requirements dictate. As long as your not running it during quiet times or excessively it shouldn't bother anyone except the nosy ones who think they own the world and feel the need to preach about any noise other than their own on a constant basis. After all...there isn't a such thing as a quiet genset no matter how much they think there is.
